Public invited to District Commission listening sessions

“Thanks to the passage of the Portland Charter Amendment, we will finally have district representation beginning with our next City Council election. However, we still don’t know what those districts will look like. Right now, the Independent District Commission is working to draw the electoral map. To ensure it is fair and representative, they need to hear from Portlanders across the city: How do you define your community in Portland? What are the places or boundaries that define that community? What are your concerns in designing the districts?

You are invited to an District Commission public listening session next Monday, May 15 at 6:00-7:30 PM to share your thoughts in small groups on what matters to you and your community in determining the district boundaries. The discussion will be facilitated by the Portland League of Women Voters. To register, go to https://www.portland.gov/transition/districtcommission/district-listening-session

Your voice matters. These district lines will set the future of our Portland electoral system for the next decade. We hope to get broad turnout, so please send this invitation on to your friends and colleagues. I hope to see you there.”
