SWHRL apologies for not posting this earlier! As you may have noticed, PBOT shut down SW Broadway Drive late July and cut as much of the weedy trees and vegetation in the right-of-way as they could; they hauled around 10 dump trucks of material away.
This was a joint effort through the Governors Park Neighborhood Firewise Community, SWHRL, Portland Bureau of Transportation, and Portland Fire and Rescue; most of the credit goes to Senior Inspector Kim Kosmas at PF&R – the neighborhood had asked about having volunteers clearing brush along SW Broadway Dr which made it both difficult to walk (in SW, the shoulder IS our sidewalk says PBOT) AND was at risk of a wildfire from stray sparks, tossed cigarettes, etc. SI Kosmas soon realized the scale of the task and got PBOT to step in with heavy machinery.
SWHRL doesn’t know who all needs thanking at PBOT (SI Kosmas talked to many people there while getting this organized), but we did go out and thank the crews who made it happen.
This is also a reminder that if your property borders an unimproved right-of-way (i.e. no sidewalk), keeping the brush trimmed for access and reduced fire risk helps keep your neighborhood, your neighbors, and you safer.
