Home Page

This is the home page for the Southwest Hills Residential League (SWHRL), the neighborhood association that serves the communities south of the Sunset Highway and located along the slopes of the West hills from the historic Portland Heights neighborhood to Council Crest and as far south as Healey Heights. The neighborhood is bordered on the South by Hillsdale, on the East by OHSU and the Homestead neighborhood, on the West by Bridlemile and Goose Hollow and Arlington Heights to the North.

SWHRL (usually pronounced as “swirl”) is one of the city’s oldest neighborhood associations dating back to the late 1960′s. The neighborhood association is very active in monitoring and guiding the residential and transportation development of this area. It maintains two active committees: the SWHRL Land Use Committee and the SWHRL Transportation Committee. In addition SWHRL does participate with its neighboring neighborhood associations, in Southwest Neighbors Inc. (SWNI), the coalition of neighborhood associations located in the SW quadrant of Portland.

The SWHRL board meets monthly on the third Wednesday of each month (except In August and December) from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Ascension, the Episcopal Chapel on SW Spring Street and SW 19th Avenue. These working meeting are open to the residents, and participation is ALWAYS encouraged. Three times a year SWHRL holds major membership meetings at Ainsworth School when topics of interest to the community are presented. The Board of SWHRL is elected annually at the May membership meeting. In late August SWHRL hosts its annual Summer Ice Cream Picnic at the Portland Heights Park (aka Strohecker’s Park) for residents to mingle and get to know their neighbors.
